Steeped in history, the former hospital and mental asylum's eerie ambiance has been eradicated with its dramatic transformation from clinical institution to multimillion pound, deluxe housing development.

The PJ Livesey Group; specialists in period and listed renovations, decided to undertake the meticulous restoration process to recreate the grandeur of Lancaster Moor's past as a prominent landmark and not a shadow wantonly forgotten.

Now labelled The Residence, as a heritage project the rebuild relied on compatible materials to both complement the traditional, majestic design whilst ensuring the development met the required standards of modern sustainable living. Boasting experience and expertise, Performance Doorset Solutions (PDS) were chosen to provide a selection of made to measure windows and doors.

P J Livesey Director, Georgina Livesey, justified PDS as the natural choice commenting “The celebrated bespoke nature and flexibility of PDS' products make them the ideal manufacturer for renovations of period properties."

The hand crafted casement windows amplify the magnificence of the classic, Victorian stone masonry while offering versatility through PDS' unique dual colour options. The refined finish of each window stems from their very construction, with advanced weatherproofing technology offering an extremely low U value rating, full fire escape proficiency and a comprehensive locking system.

Combining modern day living and a 19thCentury aesthetic was a challenging prospect. However, the PDS Mortice and Tenon Doorsets manage to effectively convey a sense of contemporary stability. PDS Commercial Director, Paul Lyon Hayes suggests the long standing Mortice and Tenon construction, “successfully epitomises the unique correlation of British craftsmanship, timber artistry and fundamental practicality."
