Carters Farm Barns of late 19th century origin are restored and transformed for residential use by local house builders, Amherst Homes. Once fit only for harbouring farm animals the deteriorating barns have been transformed into luxury homes oozing elegance and class whilst retaining ample character with the preservation of original features.

Located in Shudy Camps, a delightful village just a short drive from the thriving city of Cambridge, this unique development sits within the curtilage of Carter's Farmhouse. Although the barns aren't individually listed, preservation of the historical and social context of the farmyard was considered important and was carried out with the upmost care. Every inch of the development has been completed with the highest attention to detail. Finished head to toe with high specification fixtures and fittings, the no expense spared approach to finishing the properties truly reflect the status of these exclusive homes.

Amherst Homes wanted to create spacious open plan properties that blend perfectly into their rural surroundings. The gorgeous views and stunning greenery can be fully appreciated with an abundance of large feature screens, windows, and bi-folding doors, and the indoor/outdoor separations have been neutralised through carefully selected interior finishes and plenty of natural light entering the home.

Amherst Homes specified for the crème de la crème of timber joinery and PDS obliged. Supplying a range of Accoya Timber Casement Windows, Eco Doorsets, Feature Screens and Bi-Folding Doorsets complete with a dual colour paint finish. Intricate details of this kind make a home truly unique and are essential for creating that pristine finish necessary for a property of this standing.

Patrick French, Site Manager & William Mallett Co-Site Manager Commented ‘As a premium house builder we wanted a great looking, high spec, top of the range finish for our joinery. The joinery had to comply with building regulations and planning conservation stipulations, and the fact that PDS are a British company was yet another incentive. When you combine all of this with their excellent customer service and reasonable pricing we knew who to turn to. We have used PDS before, we currently have orders in with them, and I am sure we will use them again in the future on all of our high specification developments.'

From the start of the development it was understood that any transformation of the barns must be approached sympathetically, and Amherst Homes couldn't have done a better job. Finished with PDS' perfectly crafted bespoke joinery the new family homes will undoubtedly be the envy of the village.
