Calling all local businesses- You can make a difference.

Cheque-photoOn Friday the 28th August Tim Fairley and Pat Rice of PDS took time out off their busy work schedules to visit Springhill Hospice and present them with a cheque of £11,300 which they raised for the hospice after completing a vigorous cycling challenge back in June, the Granfondo Stelvio Santini.

As valued members of the Springhill Hospice Business Buddies Scheme, PDS continually get involved in hospice run fundraising events. They have always been big supporters of the hospice but this year PDS also encouraged employees to make a monthly donation directly from their salary, which was very well received across the company.

Regardless of their involvement over the years, it wasn’t until Tim and Pat visited the hospice first hand that they truly saw the money and work it required to keep a charity like this afloat, and they both left the hospice feeling wowed by the experience.
“Visiting the hospice was fantastic” said Tim Fairley, Managing Director at PDS “We are often only exposed to the fun fundraising side of the hospices work, The Santa Dashes and Go Green Days, however going to the hospice and looking at the work they do and seeing where the money is going first hand was tremendous.”

Pat Rice, Commercial Director at PDS described the visit as a very valuable experience “The visit really opened up my eyes to what goes into running such an organisation, the care and attention to detail paid to each individual patient aswell as their families is astonishing, however there is clearly a cost that comes with that quality of care”

The cost of keeping the doors of the hospice open each year is £3 million pounds, of which only £900,00 is NHS funded. The hospice rely on raising the other £2.1 million through fundraising activity and donations alone.

“We really enjoy having people into the hospice and showing them where their money is going. To us it’s all about getting people through the door and showing them what they are a part of. We truly do value every penny donated to us, and appreciate all the support we get from the local community.
Prior to their visit Tim and Pat had been considering completing another challenge to raise money for the hospice. After seeing the outstanding work they do and the phenomenal care they offer patients and their families, Tim and Pat where left more motivated than ever. Fine details such as hair dressing facilities, family rooms and café facilities available to patients and their families offer a sense of normality throughout a difficult time.

PDS would urge members of the Local Business Community to get behind the Business Buddies Scheme as it really can make a massive difference. PDS have found that getting employees involved has not only helped increase awareness of the work the hospice does, but has actually created a stronger team environment in the workplace.
