PDS opens the window on new city homes

newsPerformance Doorset Solutions (PDS) have recently provided their best-selling sliding sash windows for a prestigious social housing project in Bradford. The redevelopment of Roundhill place has created sixteen family homes by converting bedsits and flats which date back to the 1900’s.

The project is part of a regeneration project in the wider Goitside Conservation Area bringing affordable homes to the city centre. Main Contractor Bullock were responsible for carrying out the regeneration work which was ran by Incommunities with help from the Homes and Communities Agency and Bradford Council.

PDS worked closely with Bullock and supplied 87 sliding sash windows for the front of the building and 108 casement windows for the rear. The PDS sash windows are traditional in both appearance and construction, yet offer a host of modern day features and benefits. The design utilises the latest manufacturing technology including; FSC laminated softwood, high performance double glazing, micro porous water based factory applied paint finish and is triple weather sealed.

PDS Managing Director Tim Fairley commented “Previously old box sash windows were ripped out due to expensive replacement costs and top opening casement windows often installed as an alternative. With the desire to preserve the character of older buildings comes a demand to create building products to suit the traditionalists and conservationists whilstsatisfying modern building regulation requirements.”

newsAs the building was originally set up as bedsits it meant that it had more door openings than were needed when being redeveloped into houses. PDS were approached by the Contractor with this problem. PDS provided the solution by using glass panels in place of the doors. 38 panels of safety glass were installed, with the glass panels now providing a nice featurefor the bedrooms which brightens up the homes.

This was an interesting project for PDS to work on, Tim commented “These buildings had been empty for a long time so it was good to be involved in bringing them back to life again. We have a passion for working on housing projects which restore a building’s historic feel while also providing affordable housing for local people who need it.”

PDS based in Rochdale, produce bespoke timber windows and doorsets for the housing and builder’s merchant sectors to fit the requirements of any project. All of their windows are fitted with enhanced security hardware and high performance double glazing, to guarantee the best possible appearance, comfort, security and long term utility.
